Chaplaincy
Hope.
“The recent wave of natural disasters and the pandemic has seen many of us struggle to find a new normal. Talking to a chaplain can be a great place to start if you are doing it tough.”
Deb Kuhna, Lighthouse Chaplaincy

lighthouse chaplaincy
Relationship breakdown, loneliness, job loss, natural disasters, sickness, grief and other circumstances can leave us feeling confused and overwhelmed. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to.
Lighthouse has trained chaplains who support individuals and families when they are facing big challenges or changes. They can help you decide what’s next.
We’re trained to listen, identify needs, refer to other services and provide practical, emotional and spiritual support.
Why not start with a chat and a cuppa?

Deb has been a chaplain for over two decades and leads Lighthouse’s team of chaplaincy volunteers in areas as diverse as schools, hospitals, prisons, workplaces, sport and the local community.
As the NSW/ACT ACC State Director for Chaplaincy Australia, she is committed to raising the profile of chaplaincy as a profession with a focus on quality training, building strong referral networks and developing trust in the community. She also wants to dispel myths about chaplaincy.
“When people think of chaplain’s they normally think of hospital, emergency services and the army. In fact, chaplaincy is much broader than that. You can now find chaplains in workplaces and all areas of the community. It’s about being a skilled listener, helping to normalise difficult feelings, building relationships and helping with the next steps,” she says. “A good chaplain knows how to identify the point of the greatest need.”
“At its core, good chaplaincy is about being totally present with someone during their toughest moments,” she explains.
