what's
community kitchen?
Community Kitchen is Lighthouse’s pop-up restaurant. It’s the only sit-down free meal in the Illawarra and has been serving the region for two decades. We serve over 100 meals each week to give a helping hand to those who are doing it tough.
Each week we serve a two-course meal that includes a main and dessert. Meals are prepared in Lighthouse’s state of the art commercial kitchen by our host of guest chefs who plan out that week’s delicious offering using only quality ingredients.
Dinner is served every Tuesday and Thursday nights at 5:30pm at the Station – 1 Railway Station Square Wollongong (on the western side of Wollongong City train station). The community kitchen runs 48 weeks per year and our Christmas dinners are the highlight of the year.
it's not just about the food
The Community Kitchen is not just about the food. We’re here to make you feel great. Enjoy a free haircut every fortnight and take advantage of the free Orange Sky laundry van each Thursday to wash your clothes while you have dinner. We’ve also partnered with Street Side Medics to deliver a free GP led mobile medical service dedicated to people experiencing homelessness.
We are funded through the generous donations of Lighthouse Church and the Venture League Fund, we also enjoy partnering with other organisations to staff the kitchen.
Doing it tough? Lighthouse’s Community Kitchen has trained chaplains on site to support our guests.

how to get involved
Community Kitchen joins with individuals, small businesses and other community organisations to provide high quality meals and services to others who are doing it tough.
Whether you are an individual who wants to pitch in with a great recipe idea, a small business owner who wants a team building activity, or a school or community group who wants to give to others, we’d love to hear from you.
