Baby Dedications are an act of parents offering and committing their children’s to God and into his care and guidance. It is a commitment by the family to raise that child in the ways of the Lord, to teach them Godly principles and values and to help them to know Him so that they may one day make a decision of their own to follow Him. It is also a submission to God as the parents ask Him for guidance and direction as they make the right decisions raising that child.
The dedication of Children is taught in the Bible. As a baby, Jesus was dedicated by his parents. Jesus also bestowed blessings on the children. (Mark 10:16)
Baby Dedications are not the same as salvation and baptism. We believe an individual has to make their own decisions to follow Jesus and to be baptised at a time when they are old enough. Baby Dedications do not ensure salvation for an individual.
If you have already made the decision to follow Jesus, getting water baptised is a great next step in your faith journey.
Water baptism is an outward demonstration of your inward decision. Water baptism is your confession and public commitment to your faith. It helps you to grasp the reality of the spiritual truth that the old “you” has died.
In Christian water baptism, the believer is put completely under water, then immediately raised out of the water. It is a statement of faith that ‘my old life is behind me – I am a new person, with a new life’.
Baptism is not something we must do to impress God, but something to impress on our mind what happened to us inwardly. Water baptism is for our benefit – not God’s.
Being baptised is a public declaration of your personal decision to make Jesus Lord and Saviour of your life. It’s a declaration that the old has gone and the new is here. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
